About Us

Matthew Pitman, FNP

Matt is a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with over 20 years of experience in emergency medicine and family practice.  He has worked in the Beaufort County Emergency Department, Ocracoke Health Clinic, the Urgent Care Clinic on board Cherry Point Air Station, and the Emergency Department of Carteret Health Care.  He has long seen the need for more accessible healthcare in the DownEast area, and it was his goal for many years to make that a reality.  His experience in family practice and emergency medicine are well suited to serve the needs of the DownEast community and residents of eastern Carteret County.

Matt has lifelong ties to DownEast.  He began visiting Carteret County as a boy on extended fishing trips with his grandfather, and his grandparents eventually settled on Harkers Island after retirement.  Matt and his wife, Michelle, who was raised in Craven and Carteret counties, permanently returned to Carteret County in 1996.  They enjoy anything outdoors and on the water, especially fishing and spending time at Cape Lookout.  Matt also enjoys making and collecting decoys.  He is a charter member of the Red Head Society of the Core Sound Waterfowl & Heritage Center and a member of the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild.

Madolyn Lupton, CNA

Madolyn is the friendly face that will greet you when you walk in the door.  Madolyn is a Certified Nursing Assistant with 9 years of experience in the Emergency Department of Carteret Healthcare prior to joining Matt when he opened Pizer Family Practice in 2013.

She is a lifelong resident of the DownEast community of Atlantic.  In her free time, she can be found shelling on Core Banks.

Sherrie Murphy, RN

Sherrie has been serving others in healthcare for 21 years.  She began her career as an EMT with Otway Rescue.  She worked in the Emergency Department at Carteret Health Care, first as an EMT and later as a Registered Nurse (RN).  She retired from Carteret Health Care in 2014, and we are happy that she is willing to spend some of her retirement time working at Pizer.

Sherrie is a lifelong resident of DownEast.  In her free time, she spends many hours volunteering for her church and assisting DownEast scouting programs.

Bonnie, Official Greeter

Bonnie will often be the first to meet you when you come in the door.  Bonnie, a chocolate lab, was born just 5 days after we opened our doors at Pizer.  She has been a part of our practice from the beginning.  She comes to work with Matt daily and enjoys seeing our patients.  Her laid back demeanor and tail that always wags are very calming to many patients, and she always brings many smiles.  In her free time, she enjoys trips to the local hardware store and bank drive-throughs for biscuits.
